Senior’s Support

Senior’s Support at Care Goondiwindi is all about developing a range of programs and initiatives the positively impact on older people lives and positively promotes aging and the older person.

We assist older people to maximize their independence by providing access to free information about services and facilities available to them.

We encourage the fostering of bonds between older people and young people in rural communities.

Senior Trips

Trips are arranged to various locations for the Seniors in Goondiwindi:

OPN – Older Persons Network

The ‘Goondiwindi Older Person’s Network’ is one of the seniors services offered at Care Goondiwindi. This program has a number of goals focused on increasing older people’s awareness of healthy lifestyle options, decreasing social isolation and improving linkages and information exchange with other services. The program offers participants a mix of physical, social and intellectual activities that support people to make connections with others and to develop interests. Activities include – day & overnight trips away, luncheons, exercise programs, health talks, craft activities, celebration days, card games and opportunities to explore information technology.

Key Objectives

Older people maintain & extend their participation in their communities.

The community maintains positive attitudes towards older people & an understanding of the social issues that affect them. The community also has an opportunity to see the valuable contributions seniors have made & continue to make to our communities.

Community support services respond to the social issues affecting older people.

Gundy Greys

The Gundy Grey’s is a  group for senior males in the community who are seeking to keep active, catch up with or make new ‘mates’, share knowledge & skills or just have a yarn. The Gundy Grey’s meet once a month for a BBQ or lunch & go on regular trips to places of interest.

Care Goondiwindi also provides a range of services to help seniors remain connected in the community. These include:

– Information and referral to services and other social support networks available within the community

– Social and personal development activities to enhance your skills, participation and confidence

– Activities to decrease social isolation including bus trips, BBQ’s, hotel lunches & information sharing.

– Information & referral for health/wellbeing services that may be available to them.
